Madarganj Upazila of Jamalpur



Madarganj is an Upazila of Jamalpur District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Mothergonj is located at 24.8917°N 89.7500°E. It has 41,058 household units and a total area 225.38 km².

Before the British Colonial period, this area's most of the people was Hindu by religion. But in early seventeenth century,spread of Islamic activities reached in this area and people start converting their religion to Islam and its continues for next one and half century. Until the separation of Indian subcontinent, people from both religion lived tougher in harmony. Although the ratio of this two major religion was nearly same. but later Islam became the majority people's religion. When the Liberation was of Bangladesh with Pakistan started, people from Hindu religion started migrating to Indian territory for a safer place as the Pakistani occupied military's aggression was intolerable for those people to stay here. Also before the war still Muslims was the largest ratio in concern of religious statistics. Recently, very few people which is not more than 2-3% from different religion lives in this sub district those most of them are Hindu.

Madarganj has 7 Unions,108 Mauzas/Mahallas, and 123 villages. It has a municipality named Madergong Puorasava. After every five years, the upazila and Union Parisad election held to elect the representatives (commissionaire)& Chairman for Upazila Municipality and 7 union Council. As these administrative bodies are the part of local government, so its crucial part for both the local administrative and economic development.

The history of education in this area is substantial. There are 40 colleges and 89 primary schools, one government college, one girls college,one govt.girls schools,three nongovt.girls schools, and three boys high school. The main educational institutions are the Balijuri FM High school, est. 1910. The Balijuri Girls School was established in 1960. The Government College and Higher education was established in 1979. The Jonail High School was established in 1969. Among of all non-government high school, Gunaritala High School is one of the oldest and recognized school that established in 1947. Mohish Bathan RM High School is a good result High School. It was established in 1946. Recently established a High School name Lalduba High School but the discipline of the school is very good.
