Economy of Jamalpur



Jamalpur is an important market center for the rice, sugarcane, jute, tobacco, and mustard produced in the region. The city is connected by road, rail, and river with Dhaka and the rest of the country. It has a railway station and three dakbungalows.

The town's main exports are jute, tobacco, mustard seed, peanut, leather, egg, pulse, betel leaf and handicrafts.

Making Nakshi kantha (embroidered quilts) is a traditional occupation. Nakshi Hostoshilpo is one of the pioneers of this industry since 1995. This institute is owned by Mrs. Parul Akter, the chairperson of Zanoni Mohila Somity, which is govt. approved.

Baksiganj Upazila of Jamalpur District

Baksiganj is an Upazila of Jamalpur District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Bakshigonj is located at 25.2250°N 89.8750°E . It has 32007 units of household and total area 204.3 km².

Administration Bakshigonj thana was turned into an upazila in 1982. The upazila consists of 7 union parishads, 25 mouzas and 196 villages. In Bakshigonj have some Haat Bazer.

Bakshigonj (Town) The area of the Bakshigonj town is 3.86 km². It has a population of 8573; male 50.97%, female 49.03%; population density is 2220 per km². Literacy rate among the town people is 25.9%.

Historical events during the war of liberation the Pakistan army established a military camp at Kamalpur, in the northern sector. From the point of view of war strategy this camp was so important that its fall meant to lose control over the whole Jamalpur-Dhaka region. The freedom fighters attacked Kamalpur many times. On 31 July 1971 the freedom fighters attacked Kamalpur under the command of Major Moinul Hussain Chowdhury, Battalion Commanding Officer of the 1st East Bengal Regiment of Sector 11. This time final victory was not achieved but the casualties in the Pakistan army were huge. In this battle 35 freedom fighters including Captain Salahuddin Momtaz, Ahaduzzaman and Abul Kalam Azad were killed. On 14 November 1971 Abu Taher lost one of his legs in an explosion.

Well, Bakshiganj has some places for visit or tour including the locally famous Louchapra Picnic spot. There are some guest houses there where you can enjoy a lot of undiscovered hills, with in a touch of very simple local tribal people. There is a bazaar near there called Louchapra Bazaar.

Baksiganj thana was turned into an upazila in 1982. The upazila consists of 7 union parishads, 25 mouzas and 196 villages Baksijang thana has a remarkable development throughout the years. The key developer of this thana are MA Sattar Ex:Minister of BD Govet. Mr. Akkash Master Mr. Hamidur Rahman and a lot of people who give their time and to Develop the Upazila.

Dewanganj Upazila of Jamalpur District



Dewanganj is an Upazila of Jamalpur District, Dhaka Division, Bangladesh. It covers an area of 266.59 km2 (102.93 sq mi), and is bounded by Char Rajibpur Upazila to the north, Islampur Upazila to the south, Baksiganj Upazila and Meghalaya, India to the east, Gaibandha Sadar Upazila and Phulchhari Upazila to the west. Its main river is the Jamuna River (the Brahmaputra River).

History
The early name of Dewanganj was 'Paddat Nagar' named after by a Hindu Land Lord. During the Mughal period two saints, Dewan Shah Jalal and Dewan Shah Jamal, preached Islam in the area. Dewanganj is named after these two saints. Bahadurabad Ghat of this upazila was a very important strategic place in the northern sector during 1971 . The Pak army deployed one-platoon soldiers of the 31st Baluch Regiment, one company Para Military Rangers Forces and about 50 Razakars to keep full control over the Bahadurabad Ghat along with the Jamuna River. On 3 July 1971 a group of 400 freedom fighters attacked the Bahadurabad Ghat under the command of Major Shafayet Jamil. The Pak army was defeated in this three-day battle; with this the freedom fighters were able to disrupt the railway communication berween Jamalpur and Bahadurabad Ghat.Marks of War of Liberation Mass grave 3. .

Main fruits Mango, banana, coconut, watermelon and futi. Sarishabari Upazila of Jamalpur District



Sarishabari is an Upazila of Jamalpur District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Sarishabari is located at 24.7417°N 89.8333°E. It has 58,254 households and total area 263.48 km².

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Sarishabari has a population of 289,106. Males constitute 51.66% of the population, and females 48.34%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 148,197. Sarishabari has an average literacy rate of 24.4% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.

There is a urea fertilizer factory named Jamuna Fertilizer Co. Ltd which is the largest fertilizer factory in the country. It produces granular urea fertilizer. And some jute mills are here. Alhaz Jute Mills Ltd, AR Jute Mills and Popular Jute Mill are notable.There Is Sarishabari Baro Bazar, Station, Chaperkona, Bausi Bazar,Faijmore Bazar,Gabtuli Bazar,Shimla Bazar,Sanikuir Hut are notable also.
